Volkswagen has four models on Bio-CNG. The Volkswagen UP!, Polo, Golf and Golf Variant TGI. The updated Polo, Golf and Golf Variant TGI now have three CNG tanks (previously two) which further increases the range. In addition, the Golf and Golf Variant TGI have a new 1.5 TGI engine with 96 kW/130 hp.

VOLKSWAGEN POLO
To create an even greater range, the Polo 1.0 TGI (66 kW/90 hp) now has an additional third gas tank with a capacity of 16.5 liters. This brings the total capacity of the Volkswagen Polo up to 13.8 kg CNG. Due to its fuel-efficient character (average consumption 3.2-3.4 kg/100 km; CO2 93-98 g/km), the range of the Polo TGI is up to 360 km.

THE VOLKSWAGEN GOLF
The Golf and Golf Variant now have a third CNG tank. This brings the total capacity up to 17.3 kg Bio-CNG (Biomethane). Due to the additional CNG tank, the range of the Golf TGI is increased by an average of 80 kilometers to 440 km. All new TGI models are now able to drive almost exclusively on Bio-CNG. Additionally, they still have a small gasoline tank (9 liters in the Golf TGI) as a fuel reserve.

The Golf and Golf Variant TGI are now delivered with a new 1.5 TGI with 96 kW/130 hp and 200 Nm of torque. This engine is highly efficient thanks to the innovative TGI Miller combustion process and high compression ratio (12.5:1). In turn, the variable geometry turbocharger provides powerful acceleration from low engine speeds. The average consumption is 3.5-3.6 kg of natural gas per 100 km (CO2: 95-99 g/km).
